Sandy Rodrigues

PhD Candidate

I received the M.Eng. Telecommunications and Networks degree in 2009 at the University of Madeira, Portugal. I worked in a company called SICAPREP (Madeira), Lda (located in the Island of Madeira) in the renewable energy department for 4 years planning and executing Photovoltaic System installations (3kW-20kW).

I recently worked on a Project called “Smart Solar” in which a PV Monitoring System to analyse the performance of the generated solar power was developed. This projected consisted in the execution of an electronic prototype, the implementation of an artificial neural network system and a database management system linked to the internet for real-time monitoring.

I am currently doing a PhD that involves Photovoltaic system performance, fault detection and localization.

My research interests include:

  • Solar Energy Policies

  • PV System Performance

  • PV System Faults

  • Solar Batteries

  • I-V curve analysis

  • Machine Learning

  • Microprocessors

  • Non-Invasive sensors

PV System Studies That I Do

  • Dimensioning

  • Payback Study

  • Performance Study

  • CO2 Emissions Study

  • Shade Study
